Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (Grades K-6)
Old Sturbridge Academy Charter Public School is seeking a dedicated Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA) to serve grades k-6. Successful candidates possess experience working in diverse schools with English Language Learners and students with disabilities. The COTA must possess a passionate commitment to help our students develop skills needed to fully participate in and out of the classroom. They must create fun, exciting programs to help students master ADLS, interaction skills, motor and process skills, play, and graphic communication. The COTA is a vital member of the school team who works closely with the Director of Student Support to assist in the creation of school-wide programs and frameworks for before and extended day programs in the school and in Old Sturbridge Village that will promote growth for all Academy students. The Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant reports to the Director of Student Support.

Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant Qualifications:
- Associates Degree from accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant Program
- Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant
- Licensed in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
- Prior experience working in an educational setting
- Demonstrate collaborative instructional ability
- Experience working with students with disabilities
- Bilingual Preferred
Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant Responsibilities:
- Share OSACPS’s mission and EL Education philosophy, which will provide K-8 students with rigorous, real-world learning experiences in a supportive and nurturing school community, helping all students to become reflective inquisitors, articulate communicators, critical thinkers, and skilled problem solvers.
- Possess excellent skills in instruction, organization, and communication.
- Under direction of the Director of Student Support assist students individually or in small groups needing differentiation in the classroom while modeling EL Education philosophy.
- Work with the leadership team, classroom teachers, and other specialists to ensure the needs of all students are being met.
- Successfully implement school-wide procedures and processes to maintain a school culture of high academic achievement and behavioral expectations. Discuss assigned duties with classroom teachers in order to coordinate instructional efforts
- Provide consultation to general education and special education staff regarding student needs and best practices
- Monitor student progress through the collection of data
- Adapt and modify the environment including assistive technology and training instructional staff to meet individual needs and to help students function as independently as possible
- Use professional-quality communication skills to convey information to the student’s team
- Remain current with accepted and appropriate instructional theory, practice and research. Including engaging in regular and strategic professional development to stay current in best practices for diverse learners
- Maintain privacy and confidentiality of student's health and medical information per State and Federal Laws
- Participates as OSA staff for assigned grade in the Wednesday afternoon Learning through Experience program in Old Sturbridge Village.
- Prepare students for Student-Led Conference through the creation of Portfolios
- Attend and facilitate Student-Led Conferences (~2-3 per year)
Other Expectations:
- Attend evening events including Admissions Events (~2-3 per year), Celebrations of Learning (~4 per year), Home Visits, and Graduation
- Follow the school’s faculty handbook related to school rules, policies, and procedures
- Attend weekly professional development and faculty meetings
- Participation in Wellness Committee, Common Planning Time, and Data Meetings with the Student Support Team.
