Family Liaison
Old Sturbridge Academy is seeking a Family Liaison to serve as a bridge between Old Sturbridge Academy, families, and student communities. This position will provide teachers, staff and administrators with support in the classroom and during monthly grade level common planning time. The Family Liaison will enlist parental involvement in students’ education programs, providing resources for accessing support services, creating training and facilitating positive parent school and student relationships. The successful candidate will possess experience working in diverse schools with English Language Learners and students with disabilities, classroom management expertise, and a passion for pioneering collaborative curriculum development set at a living history museum. The Family Liaison serves as a member of the Student Support Team and directly reports to the Director of Special Education and Student Services.
Mission
Old Sturbridge Academy Charter Public School will provide K-8 students with rigorous, real world learning experiences in a supportive and nurturing school community, helping all students to become reflective inquisitors, articulate communicators, critical thinkers, and skilled problem solvers. Old Sturbridge Academy Charter Public School, an EL Education (formerly known as Expeditionary Learning) school working in partnership with Old Sturbridge Village, will foster a learning environment that represents all aspects of the diversity spectrum where our students will meet or exceed grade-level expectations in all subject areas.
About the School
Old Sturbridge Academy Charter Public School opened in 2017 and will serve 320 students in grades kindergarten through seventh during the 2021-2022 school year. There are 40 students in each grade level. We are chartered K-8 and will have a maximum enrollment of 360 students-each year we add a grade until we reach eighth grade. We believe in hands-on learning that focuses on three levels of student achievement: mastery of knowledge and skills, character, and high-quality work. Our school’s habits of character, which define our culture, are courage, collaboration, stewardship, perseverance, and high-quality work.

At Old Sturbridge Academy, our faculty and staff collaborate and support one another and our students through a number of school wide activities, events and celebrations. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in a number of these events, ranging from student and family orientation activities to celebrations of learning to graduation. We work together to support the safe and happy arrival and dismissal of our students, collaborate and plan together and use data to guide decision-making.
We are intentional about engaging our faculty and staff in the development of the Academy and of themselves. School wide professional meetings happen before the start of the school year and throughout. All staff are encouraged and expected to participate in school-funded professional development opportunities during the school year and over the summer as approved by the Principal.
Compensation: Salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience.

Qualifications
- Associates Degree
- At least two years working in a public school system
- Formal translation training or experience
- Translation and Interpretation competencies
- Correct English and Spanish usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary
- Experience working with a student information system preferred.
Responsibilities
Communication:
- Manage the family newsletters Weekly news and announcements
- Translate all of the schools family engagement programs
- Translate documents and materials as needed to Spanish
- Provide translation during IEP Meetings
- Communicate with families about community and Village events in the school newsletter
- Connecting families to 21st century summer programming information and other Village and community events.
- First point of contact for families to provide de-escalation and work with school leadership to provide resolution.
Collaboration
- Collaborate with adult crew to provide additional supports for students and families.
- Participate in various school committees, such as Instructional Leadership Team, Operations Team, Planning and Implementation, wellness committee, etc.
- Guidance counselor support
- Support School adjustment counselors and deans
- Collaborating with EL Education school designer and Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Access on various initiatives.
Connecting
- Provide assistance to the wellness and adjustment counselors connecting families to student activities
- Attend the parent advisory council Meeting
- PTSA parent teacher Scholar Association
- SEPAC – Special Education Parent Advisory Board
- Find opportunities for students and families to participate in and outside of the school building
- Help walk families through the school choice process
- Setup opportunities for area high schools to come in
Celebrating
- Meet with all 8th grade students to help them plan for high school.
- Connect with parents to share student successes
- Participate in Better World Day
