Long-Term Substitute Speech-Language Pathology Assistant
(SLPA)
Old Sturbridge Academy Charter Public School is seeking a dedicated Speech and Language Pathology Assistant substitute. Successful candidates will possess experience working in diverse schools with English Language Learners and students with disabilities. The SLPA must possess a passionate commitment to help our students develop skills needed to fully participate in and out of the classroom. They must implement fun, exciting programs to provide services to children with language/speech delays and impairments. The SLPA is a vital member of the school team who works closely with the Speech-Language Pathologist and Director of Special Education and Student Support to create schoolwide programs and frameworks for before and extended day programs in the school and in Old Sturbridge Village that will promote social skill growth for all Academy students. Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Licensed in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
- Prior experience working in an educational setting
- Demonstrate collaborative instructional ability
- Experience working with students with disabilities
- Bilingual Preferred
- Citizenship, residency or work VISA in United States required
Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant Responsibilities:
- Share OSACPS’s mission and EL Education philosophy, which will provide K-8 students with rigorous, real world learning experiences in a supportive and nurturing school community, helping all students to become reflective inquisitors, articulate communicators, critical thinkers, and skilled problem solvers.
- Implement Speech and Language and social skill intervention programs that meet the specific goals and objectives as stated in the IEP.
- Possess excellent skills in instruction, organization and communication.
- Under direction of the Speech-Language Pathologist and Director of Student Support assist students individually or in small groups needing differentiation in the classroom while modeling EL Education philosophy.
- Work with the leadership team, classroom teachers, and other specialists to ensure the needs of all students are being met.
- Successfully implement school wide procedures and processes to maintain a school culture of high academic achievement and behavioral expectations.
- Provide consultation to general education and special education staff regarding student needs and best practices
- Monitor student progress through the collection of data
- Adapt and modify the environment including assistive technology and training instructional staff to meet individual needs and to help students function as independently as possible
- Meet all district, state and federal requirements including IEP and Progress Report deadlines
- Use professional quality communication skills to convey information to the student’s team
- Remain current with accepted and appropriate instructional theory, practice and research. Including engaging in regular and strategic professional development to stay current in best practices for diverse learners
- Maintain privacy and confidentiality of student’s health and medical information per State and Federal Laws
Other Expectations:
- Attend evening events including Admissions Events (~2-3 per year), Celebrations of Learning (~4 per year), Home Visits, and Graduation
- Follow the school’s faculty handbook related to school rules, policies, and procedures
- Attend professional development and faculty meetings
- Participate and contribute at IEP/504 meetings as needed
- Take part in Teacher Assistant Team (TAT) for students who do not have an existing IEP but who may demonstrate potential support needs
- Participation in Common Planning Time, and Data Meetings with the Student Support Team as needed.
