Long-Term Substitute Teacher

Old Sturbridge Academy Charter Public School is seeking a talented educator to serve as a long-term substitute to fill in for various classroom teachers throughout the 2020-2021 school year. Successful candidates will possess experience working in diverse schools with English Language Learners and students with disabilities, classroom management expertise, a strong background in teaching reading to primary students, and a passion for pioneering collaborative curriculum development set at a living history museum (Old Sturbridge Village).

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Massachusetts Teacher Certification for Grades PreK-2 or 1-6 or completion of appropriate MTELs
  • Successful experience implementing school wide procedures and processes to maintain a school culture of high academic achievement and behavioral expectations
  • Training or willingness to be trained in Responsive Classroom and EL Education

Responsibilities:
  • Possess a collaborative spirit of “we are crew, not passengers”
  • Conduct on-going assessments and skill screenings of reading, writing, and arithmetic of children, and monitor to assure academic progress during year; maintain a variety of classroom records; learn to use MAP by NWEA and EL Benchmark Assessments
  • Ensure students meet academic benchmarks
  • Follow curriculum map and lesson plans
  • Prepare instructional materials, including modifying material for students
  • Work as a member of a focused, interdisciplinary team
  • Interact cooperatively with parents, school partners, and other professionals
  • Implement individual educational plans in the classroom
  • Plan and implement a standards-based curriculum aligned with the school’s goals, mission and vision
  • Be attentive, flexible and supportive of children and their families through positive communication
  • Running a daily Morning Crew that fosters the culture of our school and character education
  • Facilitate a group of students and attend spring Student-Led Conferences and Celebration of Learning
  • Perform other related duties, as required or assigned
