DEFINITION OF SCHOOL NURSING:

Services provided:
For all medication being given at school there are 4 major components:
When to keep your child home:
- First aid, triage, emergency care including specific care for allergies, asthma, diabetes, seizures, and others health conditions
- Medication administration
- Screenings- vision, hearing, growth, postural, and SBIRT, completed depending on grade level
- Keeping health records and immunizations
For all medication being given at school there are 4 major components:
- Medication must be in the original pharmacy container labeled
- Medication is to be hand delivered from parent/guardian to the school nurse
- A medication order signed by a physician/NP/PA must be obtained
- Parent/guardian must sign a consent form prior to any medication being given at school (attached under forms)
When to keep your child home:
- Fever, vomiting, or diarrhea, can return when symptom free for 24 hours without medication
- Strep throat, until 24 hours of antibiotic in use
- Conjunctivitis, until 24 hours of antibiotic in use
- Presence of live lice, can return with nits and treatment done
