School Substitute Teacher
Old Sturbridge Academy Charter Public School is seeking talented educators to serve as classroom substitutes for grades k-8. Substitute employees fill in for permanent school employees when they are absent to provide continuity in curriculum and school services. Successful candidate must share OSACPS’s mission and EL Education philosophy, which will provide k-8 students with rigorous, real world learning experiences in a supportive and nurturing school community, helping all students to become reflective inquisitors, articulate communicators, critical thinkers, and skilled problem solvers. Successful candidates should have a collaborative spirit of “we are crew, not passengers.”

As an EL Education school working in partnership with Old Sturbridge Village, Old Sturbridge Academy Charter Public School provides students with rigorous, real world learning experiences in a supportive and nurturing environment. Through project-based learning, case studies, field work and more, Old Sturbridge Academy fosters intellectual curiosity and encourages students to become articulate communicators, critical thinkers, and skilled problem solvers who care for themselves, others around them and their communities.
About the School
Old Sturbridge Academy Charter Public School opened in 2017 and serves 360 students in grades kindergarten through eighth. There are 40 students in each grade level. We are chartered K-8 and reached our maximum enrollment of 360 students in the 2022-2023 school year. We believe in hands-on learning that focuses on three levels of student achievement: mastery of knowledge and skills, character, and high-quality work. Our school’s habits of character, which define our culture, are courage, collaboration, stewardship, perseverance, and high-quality work.

At Old Sturbridge Academy, our faculty and staff collaborate and support one another and our students through a number of school wide activities, events and celebrations. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in a number of these events, ranging from student and family orientation activities to celebrations of learning to graduation. We work together to support the safe and happy arrival and dismissal of our students, collaborate and plan together and use data to guide decision-making.
We are intentional about engaging our faculty and staff in the development of the Academy and of themselves. School wide professional meetings happen before the start of the school year and throughout. All staff are encouraged and expected to participate in school-funded professional development opportunities during the school year and over the summer as approved by the Head of School.

Qualifications
- Must hold an associate’s degree (or higher)
- Knowledge of the subject(s) or age group being taught and the principles and methodologies of effective teaching.
- Experience using Microsoft and Google applications
Responsibilities
- Provide meaningful instruction to students in assigned classrooms while regular teacher is absent
- Review and implement regular teacher's routines, procedures, lesson plans, and curriculum objectives
- Establish and maintain a safe and orderly classroom environment
- Report any student injuries, illness, and serious discipline problems to school administration
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Strong organization skills and attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to work with children in developmentally appropriate and kind ways
- Supervise students in classrooms, halls, lunch area, and any area considered school grounds.
- Provide extra assistance to students with special needs, such as non-English-speaking students or those with physical and learning disabilities.
- Assist in bus loading and unloading.
- Records attendance in accordance with school procedures; ensuring students are always attended to and not left without supervision.
- Perform all other duties as directed by school administration
