Spanish Teacher

​Old Sturbridge Academy is seeking a Spanish teacher to develop and deliver a high-quality and immersive Spanish curriculum. The Spanish teacher will be responsible for teaching Spanish to Academy Students in grades K-8. The Spanish teacher will be expected to collaborate with colleagues to integrate Spanish into the academic program. This teacher will also be responsible for incorporating Spanish during the weekly Town Meetings and learning expeditions. The successful candidate must share OSACPS’s mission (see below) and should have a collaborative spirit of “we are crew, not passengers.”

Mission
Old Sturbridge Academy Charter Public School will provide K-8 students with rigorous, real world learning experiences in a supportive and nurturing school community, helping all students to become reflective inquisitors, articulate communicators, critical thinkers, and skilled problem solvers. Old Sturbridge Academy Charter Public School, an EL Education (formerly known as Expeditionary Learning) school working in partnership with Old Sturbridge Village, will foster a learning environment that represents all aspects of the diversity spectrum where our students will meet or exceed grade-level expectations in all subject areas.

About the School
Old Sturbridge Academy Charter Public School opened in 2017 and will serve 360 students in grades kindergarten through eighth during the 2022-2023 school year. There are 40 students in each grade level. We are chartered K-8 and will reach our maximum enrollment of 360 students in the 2022-2023 school year. We believe in hands-on learning that focuses on three levels of student achievement: mastery of knowledge and skills, character, and high-quality work. Our school’s habits of character, which define our culture, are courage, collaboration, stewardship, perseverance, and high-quality work.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Spanish or related field required, Master’s degree preferred
  • Possession of at least an initial teaching license in Foreign Language (Spanish) – Pre-K – 6 and 5-12.
  • Possession of a Massachusetts Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Teacher Endorsement
  • At least one year of teaching experience required
 
Responsibilities
  • Experience teaching elementary students ranging from primary learners to early adolescents
  • Experience teaching immersive Spanish speaking and listening lessons and, where developmentally appropriate, reading and writing lessons
  • Experience designing standards-based curriculum that connects to learning expeditions
  • Creation of standards-based K-8 Spanish Curriculum that focuses on project-based learning
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Teaching experience and/or professional learning which are consistent with our project-based, interdisciplinary educational philosophy (EL Education)

At Old Sturbridge Academy, our faculty and staff collaborate and support one another and our students through a number of school wide activities, events and celebrations.  The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in a number of these events, ranging from student and family orientation activities to celebrations of learning to graduation. We work together to support the safe and happy arrival and dismissal of our students, collaborate and plan together and use data to guide decision-making.
 
We are intentional about engaging our faculty and staff in the development of the Academy and of themselves. School wide professional meetings happen before the start of the school year and throughout. All staff are encouraged and expected to participate in school-funded professional development opportunities during the school year and over the summer as approved by the Principal.​
 
Compensation: Salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience.
