Special Education Teacher (Grades K-8)
Old Sturbridge Academy Charter Public School is seeking talented educators to serve as Special Education Teacher for grades k-8. Successful candidates will possess experience working in diverse schools with English Language Learners and students with disabilities, classroom management expertise and a passion for pioneering collaborative curriculum development set at a living history museum.
Mission
Old Sturbridge Academy Charter Public School will provide K-8 students with rigorous, real world learning experiences in a supportive and nurturing school community, helping all students to become reflective inquisitors, articulate communicators, critical thinkers, and skilled problem solvers. Old Sturbridge Academy Charter Public School, an EL Education (formerly known as Expeditionary Learning) school working in partnership with Old Sturbridge Village, will foster a learning environment that represents all aspects of the diversity spectrum where our students will meet or exceed grade-level expectations in all subject areas.
About the School
Old Sturbridge Academy Charter Public School opened in 2017 and serves 360 students in grades kindergarten through eighth. There are 40 students in each grade level. We are chartered K-8 and will reach our maximum enrollment of 360 students in the 2022-2023 school year. We believe in hands-on learning that focuses on three levels of student achievement: mastery of knowledge and skills, character, and high-quality work. Our school’s habits of character, which define our culture, are courage, collaboration, stewardship, perseverance, and high-quality work.

At Old Sturbridge Academy, our faculty and staff collaborate and support one another and our students through a number of school wide activities, events and celebrations. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in a number of these events, ranging from student and family orientation activities to celebrations of learning to graduation. We work together to support the safe and happy arrival and dismissal of our students, collaborate and plan together and use data to guide decision-making.
We are intentional about engaging our faculty and staff in the development of the Academy and of themselves. School wide professional meetings happen before the start of the school year and throughout. All staff are encouraged and expected to participate in school-funded professional development opportunities during the school year and over the summer as approved by the Principal.
Compensation: Salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- Must possess MTELs in General Curriculum, a Math subtest, and Foundations of Reading and have a degree in special education.
- Experience teaching in an EL Education and/or charter school
- Experience crafting curriculum using backwards design approach strongly preferred
- Experience gathering and analyzing data to track student progress
- Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) endorsement
Experience
- Must share OSACPS’s mission and EL Education philosophy, which will provide k-8 students with rigorous, real world learning experiences in a supportive and nurturing school community, helping all students to become reflective inquisitors, articulate communicators, critical thinkers, and skilled problem solvers.
- Ability to collaborate with EL school designer, school leaders, and colleagues to build curriculum and plan Learning Expeditions
- Successful experience implementing school wide procedures and processes to maintain a school culture of high academic achievement and behavioral expectations
- Collaborative spirit of “we are crew, not passengers”
- Running a daily Morning Meeting that fosters the culture of our school and character education
- Preparing students for Student-Led Conference through the creation of Portfolios
- Attend and help facilitate Student-Led Conferences (~2-3 per year)
- School hours for teachers are 7:30 a.m.- 4:00 p.m.
