Substitute Nurse
​

​Old Sturbridge Academy Charter Public School is seeking a talented RN to serve as a Substitute School Nurse for grades K-8. The successful candidate will possess experience working in diverse schools with English Language Learners and students with disabilities. The school nurse must possess a passionate commitment to the health and wellness of students. The school nurse is a vital member of the school team who collaborates with school staff members, families, and community members. The substitute school nurse reports to the Assistant Principal. This position will be on an as needed basis.
 
Mission
Old Sturbridge Academy Charter Public School will provide K-8 students with rigorous, real world learning experiences in a supportive and nurturing school community, helping all students to become reflective inquisitors, articulate communicators, critical thinkers, and skilled problem solvers. Old Sturbridge Academy Charter Public School, an EL Education (formerly known as Expeditionary Learning) school working in partnership with Old Sturbridge Village, will foster a learning environment that represents all aspects of the diversity spectrum where our students will meet or exceed grade-level expectations in all subject areas.
 
About the School
Old Sturbridge Academy Charter Public School opened in 2017 and will serve 320 students in grades kindergarten through eight during the 2022-2023 school year. There are 40 students in each grade level. We are chartered K-8 and will have a maximum enrollment of 360 students-each year we add a grade until we reach eighth grade. We believe in hands-on learning that focuses on three levels of student achievement: mastery of knowledge and skills, character, and high-quality work. Our school’s habits of character, which define our culture, are courage, collaboration, stewardship, perseverance, and high-quality work.
 
School Nurse Qualifications
  • Current DESE licensure as a school nurse (preferred but not required)
  • Licensure as an RN in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Current certification for CPR and AED by the American Heart Association as a Health Provider

School Nurse Responsibilities 
  • Provide health care through assessment, intervention, and follow-up
  • Update health files for each student.
  • Maintain log of medication administration, assessments, interventions, and communication with families
  • Maintain health cabinets with all necessary medical supplies including safe handling, storage, and disposal of prescription medications and hazardous wastes
  • Follow Individual Health Care Plans and Emergency Action Plans for students with special health needs, and include in section 504 plans or Individualized Education Plans (IEP) as applicable;
  • Maintain privacy and confidentiality of student's health and medical information per State and Federal Laws.
  • Knowledge of: medical disorders and treatment; child growth and development; public health problems and procedures for treatment in coordination with other health and social service agencies; universal precautions; federal, state, and local laws and regulations affecting the delivery of school health services; district policies, procedures, rules and regulations ; FERPA and HIPPA regulations

Compensation:
Salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience.

At Old Sturbridge Academy, our faculty and staff collaborate and support one another and our students through a number of school wide activities, events and celebrations.  The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in a number of these events, ranging from student and family orientation activities to celebrations of learning to graduation. We work together to support the safe and happy arrival and dismissal of our students, collaborate and plan together and use data to guide decision-making.
We are intentional about engaging our faculty and staff in the development of the Academy and of themselves. School wide professional meetings happen before the start of the school year and throughout. All staff are encouraged and expected to participate in school-funded professional development opportunities during the school year and over the summer as approved by the Principal.​
